Over the course of 2020, Cloudflare engineering teams have been focusing a lot of effort to build a new traffic filtering engine in Rust. The goal is simple: enable Cloudflare to scale to the next level while opening up the platform to more advanced use cases. In March 2021, during security week, we announced the new WAF - the first product formally adopting the new engine.
