One of the most frequent feature requests for the Cloudflare WAF has historically been the ability to generate alerts on spikes of malicious traffic. In this post, co-authored with Natasha Wissmann, we announce the first iteration of the Cloudflare WAF alerting functionality. Building this feature was a huge joint team effort between the WAF engineering team, and the application services team who manage some central components such as our alerting platform, not only used by the WAF.
